Attention-Getting Outfits

Following my previous blog post about a polished black and brown wardrobe, I saw this article about how to get yourself out of an all-black rut and it got me thinking about my own winter outfits. This is a particular favorite:

Yah, you blend.

The effect of wearing this coat is astonishing. Not only is it cozy and comfortable (and those buttons!), it was a gift from a friend, which makes it more like a warm hug. The color of it cheers me up immensely on grey, dreary days, and it's actually versatile enough that it goes with a lot of outfits, ranging from the uber casual like jeans and sweaters, to dresses, to trousers and heels, and everything in between.

But I think one of my favorite things about wearing it is the response I get from people. Almost everyone comments on the color, and even complete strangers will tell me, "Hey! I like your coat!". They always say it with a big smile on their face, which just delights me.

I also get a lot of comments when I wear this dress:

Side-tie tops are a favorite!

I know, I know - it's not bright but it's an interesting pattern and the style is lovely, which is why it's a staple in my wardrobe year-round. It's light enough for Spring and Summer with a cardigan and strappy black sandals, but add a chunky sweater or wool vest plus some fleece-lined tights and suede boots and it's perfect for Fall and Winter. The length keeps me warm in the cooler weather, but since there are buttons all the way down the front, I can unbutton the bottom few and stay cool and comfortable on warmer days.

I feel great in both the coat and the dress, even moreso when people comment on them. Not that I'm looking for validation, but it takes a lot for a person to come out of their little bubble to notice someone else's attire. These pieces really draw them out and I love that - it's such a small interaction but it makes my day. Plus, it's nice to have an impact on someone else's world, especially a positive one.

And you never know.... perhaps it will inspire them to wear something bright or noticeable and make someone else's day!
