Oh, Dolly! She had such a wonderful sense of humor about her image (and she was definitely not an eyesore). Yes, she poked fun at herself but because she owned her look completely, no one else could possibly knock her down a peg. We should all be so comfortable with our appearance and I feel a bit of solidarity because I, too, don't feel fashionable. Stylish, yes, but not truly fashionable. Her fortitude and resilience were incredible, and the world is a little darker without her sweet, funny, generous soul in it.

She was known for her rhinestones, her nails, her larger-than-life hair, her silhouette, and none of it was accidental. She was happy being herself and gravitated toward costumes, clothes, and makeup that made her feel like herself.
Barbara Walters once said to her, “'You don't have to look like this. You're very beautiful. You don't have to wear the blonde wigs. You don't have to wear the extreme clothes, right?” Parton didn't skip a beat before replying, “'No, it's certainly a choice.”

ANATOMY OF AN OUTFIT
This is a peek into my favorite outfit of the week where I break it down for you: why I've put it together and why it works, what elements could be swapped out, things to consider, etc.
In Dolly's honor, I chose a double denim outfit this week. I can't go as far as she did and triple up with denim cowboy boots, though! Every once in a while, it's a lot of fun to channel someone else's style by using your own clothes. It stretches your creativity muscles (and really highlighted a lack of rhinestones in my wardrobe!) and you'll probably create an outfit you've never worn before. I ended up in chambray shorts - not a traditional denim, true, but denim-adjacent, which I think counts. The vest is quite fitted, appropriate for a Dolly-inspired outfit. I added the only sparkly necklace I have - a 3-strand delight - plus a silver-tone braided cuff. The shoes are neutral so as not to draw attention, and of course, quite high, á la Ms Parton. The canvas material of them really suits the fabrics of the top and shorts.
