Style Buzz: Effortless Holiday Dressing + Styling a Pink Blouse

Updated: Dec 5

Three Ideas to Inspire Your Style This Week

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"When in doubt, dress the part!"

I hear inspiring quotes all over the place, and this one comes from Eugene Levy on his "Reluctant Traveler" series! He was headed to a ball in Vienna and admitted that when he's going into an unknown situation, he takes cues from the type of event to guide what he wears, giving him confidence to fit in and be more fully present. Wherever you find yourself this holiday season, embrace the unknown with some sartorial armor (aka a fabulous outfit!).

6 TIPS FOR EFFORTLESS HOLIDAY DRESSING

This time of year is so many things: busy, exciting, overwhelming, fun, and cold!

Your holiday outfits should add joy to the season, not stress. Between office drinks, family get-togethers, candle-lit soirées, and those last-minute invitations, your wardrobe can start to feel like a white elephant gift. Here are six practical ways to make holiday dressing gloriously simple.

1. Plan ahead (your future self will thank you). Map outfits for key events now, top to toe, including shoes and accessories. Try pieces on and snap photos of combinations you like. If anything feels tight, itchy, or requires any kind of tweaking to fit properly, swap it out. Clarity beats complexity, and decisions made in November are infinitely calmer than those made 10 minutes before you leave the house.

2. Create a uniform for each event type. Define a go-to formula that works for you. Office do? Tailored trousers, silky top, and a blazer with earrings that pop. Family outings? Elevated knitwear, dark denim, ankle boots, scarf. Evenings out? Slip skirt or dress, jacket, statement earrings, heels or dressy flats. A uniform lets you look effortless without sacrificing style.

3. Treat lookbooks like party prep. Scroll curated lookbooks for quick inspiration. Save 6-8 outfits that spark excitement and borrow their structure using what you already own. Look at your pieces differently to see how something might work in a way you'd not considered before. It’s outsourcing, not copying.

4. Build a mini remixable capsule wardrobe. Choose a small group of mixable pieces: two bottoms, six tops, one dress, a jacket, a coat, one bag, two shoe options. Keep colors harmonious so everything plays nicely. It makes getting dressed feel like you're on holiday and choosing from what fit in your suitcase, plus it flexes your creativity muscles to put pieces together in different ways.

5. Dress from the hanger, not the pile. Pre-hang your outfits by event or week, complete with lingerie, tights, or layering bits on the same hook or nearby drawer. Visible outfits = less mental gymnastics.

6. The “desk to dinner” kit. Keep a small festive upgrade stash in your handbag, car, or desk. Think bold lip, sparkling studs, a statement ring, or a stunning brooch. These little shifts turn everyday pieces into evening magic without a wardrobe overhaul.

The holidays are for memories, merriment, and perhaps a mince pie or two, not staring at your closet in frustration. Remove the guesswork, add tiny moments of sparkle, and you’ll always look like you meant it, even if you’ve momentarily lost track of the date.

3 WAYS TO STYLE IT: Pink Button up Blouse

I never really considered myself to be a "pink" girl, but this blouse came into my world a while ago and has stuck around because it's the right shade of pink for me, more of an understated Millennial pink than a bright rosy pink. It's fairly plain by itself but pairs really well with numerous top layers and colors, plus it's a slightly heavier weight, which is nice in the cooler months (although I do wear it year round).

It's a nice soft color against an all-black outfit, especially when its smooth texture is paired against the nubbly wool vest.

I love how it peeks out under the khaki jacket and over the jeans, adding some polish to a fairly casual outfit.

Doubling down on the pinks! Tone on tone is lovely and muted, especially with the olive corduroys and tennies.
