Ideas to Inspire Your Style This Week!
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"Life is a party, dress like it."
-- Audrey Hepburn
I met a darling lady at an event in January and we got chatting about the holidays and traditions. She said she has a pajama day at the beginning of December with hot chocolate and treats while they decorate the house. I love this idea and do something similar myself! For things like a royal wedding or coronation I'll make a proper high tea with silver and china and linen, wear my sparkly headband, and make an occasion of it. So when the Met Gala red carpet was being aired earlier this week, I popped on a gown and some heels! It heightened my enjoyment of the broadcast, plus let me test run the outfit before I might need to wear it. Verdict: two thumbs up!

MARKING LIFE'S MOMENTS
I've had interactions with a number of people recently who work in an a very casual or athletic environment. One of them admitted that after a day in shorts and a polo at work, she goes home and puts on jeans and a t-shirt or just goes straight to pajamas. The irony is that after chatting a bit further about other things, she said "I can see why Carrie Bradshaw wanted to wear heels all the time. I put on real clothes and I start to feel better."
You're likely well aware that clothes have a massive effect on how you feel in your day. They can give you confidence, comfort, and joy. They enhance your self-esteem and protect you from the elements. But there's another surprise benefit of dressing with intention: clothes help your brain distinguish between work, social, rest, and playtime, giving it a fresh new focus when you're changing activities.
There’s something powerful about dressing with intention. Not in the sense of “always looking polished” or treating every trip to the supermarket like a runway appearance (although you know I'm a fan of that!), but in using clothing to acknowledge the rhythm of a day. Changing what we wear can create a mental shift as much as a physical one. It tells our brains that one moment has ended and another has begun.
Rather than blending into one non-delineated blob of time, you note distinct breaks in the day, slowing down time and helping you to be just a little more present in the moment.
For years, getting dressed carried structure. Work clothes were for work, evening clothes were for socializing or relaxing, gym clothes were for movement, and pyjamas were for bed. Somewhere along the way, particularly after the rise of working from home and the dominance of athleisure, many of those boundaries blurred into one long stretch of stretchy waistbands and “this will do.” Convenient? Absolutely. Inspiring? Not always.
Rediscovering the joy of dressing with intention is really about embracing those small transitions. Putting on a proper outfit for work, even at home, can sharpen your focus. Changing into softer clothes at the end of the day reminds your body to rest. A favorite necklace for dinner with friends or a bright scarf for running errands can turn ordinary routines into occasions worth noticing.
Clothing may seem superficial, but it shapes your mood, posture, confidence, and presence. We aren’t just dressing our bodies; we’re marking moments, both emotional ones and those on your calendar. And in a world where days can easily blur together and you want to use everything in your wardrobe, that little ritual matters rather a lot.
ANATOMY OF AN OUTFIT
This is a peek into my favorite outfit of the week where I break it down for you: why I've put it together and why it works, what elements could be swapped out, things to consider, etc.
I popped down to Ashland with my sister last weekend to soak in the mineral springs but to mostly to have some sister time. I love that she sees travel of any sort as a reason to wear fancier clothes than she does every day. She delights in wearing a silk dress to travel in and wearing heels even if all we're doing is exploring the grounds of the resort, because you might stumble across an impromptu afternoon tea or wine tasting, of course! So to be polished but comfy in a casual environment, I wore a new outfit that I got from Sip & Seams a few weeks ago. The blouse has an intricate and colorful print, supported by tonal shades of blue in the shorts and cardigan. The shorts have a darling gold button detail, which I complemented with gold-tone jewelry. My ubiquitous cream slides were perfect - comfy for wandering around but more polished than flat sandals.
Blouse: Pink Rose
Cardigan: Loro Piana

SAVE THE DATES
![]() | One of my clients is holding three opportunities to gather and talk about menopause. It's a topic worth talking about with others because it so affects our bodies, how we feel, how we show up in the world, and it's nice to know you're not alone (you're not!), no matter your age.
Pop by Sip Champagne & Dessert Bar on May 16, June 11, and July 16 to meet and chat with Desirae, an amazing lady who can help you navigate your path (plus she's very stylish!). |
