Ideas to Inspire Your Style This Week!
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"Fashion you can buy, but style you possess."
-- Iris Apfel
In times of economic uncertainty, this quote resonates even more with me. Iris was famous for her "More is more and less is a bore" attitude, but she also understood that style was personal. While you can just go out there and shop til you drop, it's what you do with those pieces that matters. Which is why shopping isn't always the answer. Of course, you've got to shop a little to find the right pieces for you and your life, but how you utilize them in creative ways is the key to defining your style. Yours is inside you, so have you given it a chance to come out and play yet?

HELP! I'VE FALLEN INTO A STYLE RUT!
When you're pressed for time or simply lacking inspiration, getting dressed in the same thing every day is easy. You might even convince yourself that you've created a uniform, but in reality you know that you've actually just fallen into a style rut. The good news is that escaping a rut doesn't necessarily require a shopping trip. Often, just a few small changes using pieces you already own can make your wardrobe feel fresh again.
1. Add a pop of color. If you tend to live in neutrals, introduce one colorful item into your outfit. A bright scarf, handbag, cardigan, pair of shoes, or even lipstick can completely change the mood of an outfit without requiring a major overhaul.
2. Try monochrome dressing.Wearing one color from head to toe creates a polished, intentional look. It doesn't have to be exact shades: different tones of navy, grey, cream, or olive work beautifully together and can make familiar pieces feel effortlessly sophisticated.
3. Swap your usual shoes. Many people wear the same shoes with everything. Try pairing sneakers (NOT running shoes!) with a dress, loafers with jeans, or ankle boots with trousers you normally wear with flats. The outfit instantly takes on a different personality.
4. Wear your layers differently.Instead of wearing a cardigan over a top, try buttoning it up and wearing it as a top. Tie a shirt over a dress, wear a blazer with a graphic tee and jeans, or layer a lightweight knit over a collared shirt. Sometimes the answer isn't new clothes, just new combinations.
5. Add one accessory you usually skip.A belt, necklace, brooch, watch, hat, or pair of statement earrings can elevate an outfit in seconds. Accessories are often the difference between being dressed and being styled.
Style ruts happen to everyone. The trick is not to buy your way out of them but to get curious with what you already have right in front of you. A little experimentation can help you see your wardrobe (and yourself!) with fresh eyes.

ANATOMY OF AN OUTFIT
This is a peek into my favorite outfit of the week where I break it down for you: why I've put it together and why it works, what elements could be swapped out, things to consider, etc.
Some might say that I have a coat obsession (not me!) and most days, through three of the four seasons, I'm in a coat of some sort. When Spring rolls around, though, it's always a little frustrating because my coats are either too long, too formal, or too rain-coaty. So when I stumbled across this one, I had to grab it. It's lined, there's a pleated detail at the cuff, and the length is perfect to work with absolutely everything -- trousers, jeans, dresses, skirts, shorts -- plus the color is neutral but not invisible. Bonus: I can shove it into my handbag without it objecting too much. When paired with a navy lace dress, brown leather belt and handbag, plus gold accents in my shoes, glasses and jewelry, it polishes up quite nicely. I'm not a huge fan of fast fashion but every once in a while, it's possible to find a piece that feels like it really will last a long time and be a wardrobe staple for more than just one season.
