Style Buzz: The Easiest 3-3-3 Method + Styling White After Labor Day

Three Ideas to Inspire Your Style This Week

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"I used to wear business casual to work and it felt good. Now it feels good to not make decisions!"

A business casual life a very long time ago.
A business casual life a very long time ago.

Which is exactly why this new client reached out to me. She knew her old style made her happy, but since Covid and a baby and all the other things life throws in the way, her wardrobe had taken a back seat. She'd chosen to just make her life easy by wearing scrubs, removing the daily decision of what to wear. But deep down she knew it didn't make her truly happy, so even though the lack of decisions felt good, she called me. I love that she knows she (and everyone!) deserves style that is both comfortable AND easy!

CAN YOU WEAR WHITE AFTER LABOR DAY?

ree

This "rule" has been drilled into us since before we can remember, but do you know why it exists? It's got its roots in East Coast society: you wore your summer whites and lighter-colored clothes while you were at your house in the Hamptons, but put them away after the season. It's also for practical purposes: light colored clothing shows the mud and grime of the rainy season more than darker colors. But nowadays, clothing is easier to clean and summer weather doesn't stop according to an arbitrary date. So you wear white whenever you want, calendar be damned!

3 WAYS TO WEAR IT: White After Labor Day

I do love that the Oregon summer weather extends well into September (and sometimes mid-October!) so the No White After Labor Day rule is a nuisance when you have to keep dressing for warmer weather. I love how the article above spells out how to keep wearing white, especially with an eye to the changing seasons. Here's my take on it with my own wardrobe.

Monochrome doesn't have to be all starkly white. The blouse has a taupe print to it that keeps it neutral while still adding some visual interest.

The white really pops agains the neutral tones, looking easy but polished, especially as the tan in the shoes brings out the tan in the blouse.

A classic black and white pairing is not only a lovely way to wear the creamy white skirt, but the jacket adds a layer for cooler evenings.
